About the Host Site: Countryside Day School

Countryside Day School, founded in 1967 by Frank and Annette Kulle, was a fully recognized AMI school for over thirty years. All teachers in the school hold AMI diplomas for the ages they teach. Countryside serves children from infancy through middle school.


The school is located on a wooded campus in Northbrook, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago.
It is situated on just under four acres with two buildings.

The classrooms at Countryside Day are beautifully decorated with particular attention to detail. Educators from around the world come to gain inspiration from these exquisitely appointed classrooms.

The newest addition to the campus is our Middle School, completed in August 2013.


Countryside’s Elementary is a 6 – 12 class with 60 students located on the second floor of Jena Hall in 2000 square feet of space.


CMS has three primary classes, including one All Year Montessori Classroom.


And finally, two Toddler Communities for children eighteen months to three years.

Countryside Day School has been a pioneer school integrating physical education, music, art and foreign language instruction into the formal school day within the framework authentic Montessori methodology. In addition CMS has successfully developed a model for an All Year Montessori classroom which is also consistent with Montessori pedagogy.

Countryside’s staff members have an average tenure at Countryside of 13 years, with 5 teachers who have been at the school for 20 years. The school is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) for over 20 years and is an NAIS member school.
