Mike Piskel is a recently retired science instructor from Glenbrook North located in Northbrook Illinois, where he taught general science, biology, and brain studies for 36 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa and his master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Northeastern University. Mike was also active supervising a variety of clubs and activities including science club, fishing club, future educators club, juggling and magic club, and soundstage. During his tenure at Glenbrook North High School, he was awarded a Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction, he was the recipient of the Glenbrook Parent Association Distinguished Teacher Award, twice awarded a Glenbrook Distinguished Service Award, and also received the Educator of the Year Award from the Friends of the Chicago River. Mike’s unique sense of humor and ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and meaningful way have made him a favorite with many of his students, colleagues, and parents over his career.
